Flange Face Re-Machining
Over a period of time or possibly due to a flange being damaged from mishandling, possible corrosion, over tightening or general deterioration, maintenance by the use of in-situ machining may be required.
It is important that this work is only carried out by trained experienced personnel making use of suitable machining equipment and following recommended procedures.
Inspection of the flanges should be carried out by experienced people and full discussion with the machinist agreeing the tolerance of the amount of potential material to be removed. Remember that if too much material is removed, then the integrity of the flange could be compromised.
Dimensional standards are supplied by the manufacturer for ANSI B16.5, BS 1560 API 6A and many other flanged joints and should always be consulted and approved by the supervising engineer.
